We invite you to journey with us through the timeless beauty of opera, sacred music, Italian art songs, Broadway favorites, and beloved melodies from Mexico and the Philippines.

Although separated by thousands of miles, our two nations share a deep appreciation for music, family, faith, and artistic expression. Through every selection performed this evening, we celebrate these shared values and the universal language that unites us all.

Yovanni Catalán Vázquez

Mexican tenor Yovanni Catalán Vázquez continues to solidify his presence on the international operatic stage. His artistic milestones include standout performances as Alfredo in La Traviata and Nemorino in L'elisir d'amore at the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City (2019). Later this season, he will appear in Chicago, Illinois, as Don Carlo in Verdi's monumental opera Don Carlo (2026).

Catalán Vázquez is an alumnus and scholarship recipient of the SIVAM Opera Workshop (International Society of Mexican Art Values). He is also a distinguished recipient of the Plácido Domingo Scholarship, which supported his advanced training with world-renowned mentors including Joan Dornemann (Metropolitan Opera), Cesar Ulloa (San Francisco Conservatory of Music), and other esteemed teachers. His artistic development includes a summer at Dolora Zajick's Institute for Young Dramatic Voices, as well as an apprenticeship under Corradina Caporello of the Juilliard Vocal Arts faculty.

Throughout his career, Catalán Vázquez has been recognized with several significant honors, among them the Distinction for National Culture from the Office of the Presidency of the Republic of Mexico and the Order for Mexican Education, awarded by the Secretariat of Culture of Mexico.

Dominic Martin Reyes

Dominic Martin Reyes is a Filipino composer and tenor based in the Chicago area. They recently graduated from DePaul University with a Bachelor of Music in Music Composition with an emphasis on 21st-century classical music. Their compositions focus mainly on vocal works, ranging from solo voice projects and choral works to, more recently, electronics for voice, music production, and arranging. Starting this fall, they will attend LSU for a master's degree in vocal performance, studying under Robert Grayson and Paul Groves.

Dominic was a festival artist for Opera Festival of Chicago last summer, singing in various recitals and joining the season as a chorus member. They has also been involved with Musica nelle Marche in the summers of 2022 and 2024 (Vittorio Angeli Scholarship winner). At DePaul Opera, they also starred in Il ritorno d'Ulisse as Iro and in Street Scene as Danny Buchanan.

Dominic currently sings at Second Presbyterian Church as a quartet member and is an active singer and soloist within the Chicago area. They were recently the tenor soloist for Second Presbyterian's performances of Handel's Messiah and Dubois's The Seven Last Words of Christ. They also teach voice, piano, and composition in their private studio and at Music and Company.

Myron Silberstein

Myron Silberstein is a composer and pianist whose performance career focuses on bringing attention to neglected masterpieces. He has given first recordings of piano works by Vittorio Giannini, Peter Mennin, Norman Lloyd, and Paul Creston, and has recorded programs of Vincent Persichetti and Franz Liszt for Naxos, Centaur, Ictus, and Connoisseur Society. The American Record Guide called his Mennin and Lloyd recording "an indispensable addition to the discography of American music."

His own compositions include an opera, two choral cantatas, six piano sonatas, several chamber sonatas, and dozens of songs and song cycles — featured on Laura Strickling's GRAMMY-nominated album 40@40 and recorded for Toccata Classics. A Chicago resident since 2002, he is also an avid amateur translator of Sanskrit epic.
